It was with great sadness that we learned today of the death of John Egglesfield, at the age of 86.
John played in goal for the club for many years before becoming a club umpire...and his support for teams in the middle and lower down the club was invaluable to the captains of those teams.
John was a regular in the bar on Saturday evenings, debating the issues arising from the day's games, and he was always generous with a round for thirsty players.
John also gave us his two lads Laurence and Richard who served West Herts skilfully and devotedly.
Our sympathies go out to the boys and their families, and especially to John's wife Bridget.
