RE: Season Update

04 Mar 2021

Dear West Herts Hockey Club Member,

We are sure that you will have been eagerly anticipating a return to hockey given the Government announcement on 22nd February about a possible return to recreational sport from 29th March. It has therefore been frustrating that subsequent details about a return to play have not been forthcoming, and we are currently waiting for guidance from DCMS and England Hockey about what the roadmap for a safe return to play will look like. Please find a link to the EH statement on a return to play here.

East Leagues

We have received an update from the East Region, and unfortunately it is bad news for all East League sides. The East Region have decided to conclude the current season with all outstanding fixtures cancelled and the season annulled. Please read their full statement here.

Future Plans

Whilst it is frustrating that the season has been curtailed with the end in sight, all is not lost!

Our current plan is to offer training and coaching throughout April to enable members to blow away some cobwebs and get their hockey skills out of winter hibernation. The dates of these sessions are TBC, as we await confirmation from England Hockey. We will let you know ASAP!

Centenary Sixes

In May, we would like to kick start our Centenary preparations by offering members a WHHC Six-a-side tournament. The tournament will run over 6 weeks from Tuesday 4th May - Thursday 27th May, with knock out games and finals happening after half-term from Tuesday 8th June - Thursday 17th June. Full rules and schedule can be found on our WHHC Centenary Sixes Site.

In June and July we would like to offer members a mixed tournament - in a similar format to that of the Centenary Sixes, but with greater interaction between the men's and women's club. It is our hope to have the bar open, and to have a a fantastic weekly social event on long warm summer evenings!

OMT Summer League

We are aware that members may also wish to participate in a more traditional 11-a-side summer league format, as well as, or instead of our 6-a-side provision. OMT are proposing to run their summer league competition starting in May, and running through the summer months.

Questionnaire

In order to plan accordingly, please complete the questionnaire here, and we will let you know of our confirmed plans by the end of March.

Juniors

It is our aim to get Junior hockey up and running on Sunday mornings again after the Easter holidays. We have a provisional start date of Sunday 18th April, running through to May half-term. Junior members and parents will receive a separate notification from the Junior section to confirm dates and timings.

Kind regards,

West Herts Hockey Club
