Dear West Herts Hockey Club Member,
Whilst 2021 has not started in a way that we would have liked, we would like to keep you updated as to the state of play with regards league hockey and to outline some our plans for the summer ahead and the start of our Centenary season in 2021/22.
League Update:
Unfortunately, it is looking increasingly likely that there will be no resumption to league hockey before Easter (28th March). Whilst we are aware that some regional leagues have cancelled their leagues already, we are still awaiting a resolution from the East region, and we remain hopeful that we might be able to resume playing and complete half of the season. We will keep you updated of any developments.
Activity in Lockdown:
It has been pleasing to see so many teams setting up fitness challenges, and logging their times and distances on Strava. Keep up the good work! We have uploaded some hockey skills practices to the Juniors site, please have a go, and upload your attempts to our facebook and instagram sites. The link to the Juniors site can be found here.
Return to Play:
Return to play is still not currently possible. We are still awaiting the Government review to the current lockdown, due later this month. As soon as we get the all clear from England Hockey, we will let you know how we plan to enable everyone to return safely to the New Field.
Centenary Summer 6s:
We have all missed out on half a season of hockey, and the competition, camaraderie and opportunity to socialise that hockey brings. As such we would like to run a social 6-a-side tournament over the summer months to allow members to meet up, play and socialise after. Provisional dates are Tuesday 8th June - Thursday 20th July. We will be sending out more information on this soon, to gauge interest, and so we can plan an appropriate format.
Centenary Season 2021/22:
2021/22 will be the Club's Centenary season. We would like you to 'Save the Date' for the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September 2021, as the start of our year of Centenary Celebrations. We are planning for senior hockey events on the Saturday, with Masters games, and Men's and Women's 1st XIs playing. Sunday will see us focus on the Junior Club, with tournaments and fun events planned.
Whilst the year may not have started as we would have hoped or planned, there is reason to be optimistic. This is an exciting time for the Club and the start of our next 100 years of hockey in Watford. We can't wait to see you all back on the pitch soon.
